Robert Mawhinney is an Associate Professor of Physics at Columbia University, working primarily in the field of numerical simulations of quantum field theory. He has been one of the principal members of the teams that designed, built and programmed the Quantum Chromodynamics on Digital Signal Processors (QCDSP) machine and the Quantum Chromodynamics on a Chip (QCDOC) machines. The 1 TeraFlops QCDSP machines won the Gordon Bell Prize for price/performance at SC 98 and three, 10 Teraflops QCDOC machines are currently deployed and are used exclusively for lattice QCD calculations.
